The Hospice and Palliative Care Certificate program provides learners  with the knowledge and skills needed in providing  health care for those who are experiencing severe illness or those who are at the end of their lives. Such care requires a compassionate, loyal, motivated caregiver with an interest in serving the community. Hospice is a healthcare specialty that involves the treatment of some of the most seriously ill patients. This Hospice and Palliative Care Certificate Program is perfect for allied healthcare professionals who want to specialize in this extremely important and vital service. It is also perfect for nurses, rehabilitation professionals, medical assistants, nursing assistants, pharmacists, social workers, and clergy members.

Upon successful completion of the Hospice and Palliative Care Certificate program, learners should be able to demonstrate proficiency in:

Note: The certification examination is not included in this certificate program. Learners can pursue such certification independently should they desire to do so.

The Hospice and Palliative Care Program is 8 weeks long and offers starts 4 times a year. The program is offered in an online format.

Susan Davis

Susan Davis, PT, DScPT

Dr. Susan Davis earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from Simmons College in 1989 and a Doctor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Maryland in 2006. In addition, Susan attained a Graduate Certificate in Distance Education from the University of Maryland. She has twenty-five years of clinical healthcare experience in a variety of healthcare settings from hospitals to home care agencies to outpatient facilities. She holds the Certified Coding Association certification from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).

In addition to teaching for the University of Miami's Medical Billing and Coding. Dr. Davis has been teaching in prestigious healthcare programs at the University of Maryland and Logan University for eight years. She also has been developing coursework for these schools and others in healthcare and electronic medical record programs, creating courses that include Computer Office System, Medical Insurance, Electronic Medical Administration Procedures, Medical Terminology, Anatomy & Physiology, and many more.
