Whether it’s in marketing, healthcare, government, or activism -- the ability to translate data into insights has quickly become a highly in-demand skill by all. The UM Data Analytics Boot Camp is a part-time 24 week program that will empower you to gain the knowledge and skills to conduct robust analytics on a host of real-world problems.

The program is designed to fit into your life, whether you’re employed or attending college full-time, with convenient weekend and evening sessions. The program is rigorous, fast-paced, and focused on the practical technical skills needed to solve data problems. Throughout the course, you’ll be gaining proficiencies on a host of marketable technologies like Advanced Excel, Python, JavaScript, (D3.js, Leaflet.js), HTML/CSS, API Interactions, Social Media Mining, SQL, Tableau, Fundamental Statistics, Machine Learning, R, Git/GitHub and more.     • The curriculum is built around the needs and schedules of busy students and full-time working professionals.
    • The program is designed to fit into your life, whether you’re employed or attending college full-time, with convenient weekend and evening sessions. 
    • The curriculum combines data analytics and visualization and career skills to help position students for success after they graduate.
    • The 250-hour curriculum includes classroom instruction and, on average, 20-30 hours a week on outside assignments.
    • Our curriculum is designed to provide you with a deep foundation on the core technical skills needed to succeed in the field.
    • The program also offers students with little or no prior experience 10 hours of pre-course tutorials.*
    • The curriculum incorporates a blend of real world projects, marketable hard skills, and behavioral and technical interview prep to prepare students to succeed on job interviews. 
    • The program is rigorous, fast-paced, and focused on the practical technical skills needed to solve data problems. 
    • By the time students graduate, they will have the ability to:
      • Employ statistical analysis to model, predict, and forecast trends
      • Expertly build VBA scripts in Excel to automate tedious manual processes
      • Utilize real-world data sources to showcase social, financial, and political phenomena
      • Create Python-based scripts to automate the cleanup, re-structuring, and rendering of large, heterogeneous datasets
      • Analyze social media trends on Twitter and Facebook using automated programs
      • Use advanced SQL and Mongo techniques to combine multiple datasets into one so as to create even more impressive and comprehensive databases

    *We have pre-work designed for people with no experience to complete before proceeding in the application process. There is also pre-work for students who enroll to complete before the boot camp starts. Students without a degree or experience can apply, but they'll be told they have to work a lot harder to find a job after the program without a degree.

    The continuing education landscape has elevated an era of innovation and disruption and as such, the Office of Professional Advancement has instituted a badging system.  Graduates of our programs will be able to virtually display a badge, which showcases their new skillset to prospective employers and professional colleagues.

    How does it Work?

    Badges are earned by successfully completing a certificate program through the Office of Professional Advancement. * Upon completion, you will receive an email with instructions on how to collect your badge. Once collected, you can display your badge on social media sites like LinkedIn. Any potential employer will be able to click on the badge for a list of specific skills associated with the respective certificate received.
