Effective project management is an integral skill in a wide variety of careers. This program focuses on the core competencies of project management in the Project Management Institute, A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, (PMBOK® Guide) – Sixth Edition, Project Management Institute, Inc., 2017. Students pursuing a certificate in project management will demonstrate proficiency in the knowledge areas, process groups, skills, and techniques delineated in the PMBOK® Guide and use them to execute projects effectively and efficiently through all stages. The knowledge and skills gained will prepare participants for all facets of the project management process across a broad spectrum of disciplines.

To earn the certificate, you are required to complete the Project Management framework and Fundamentals, Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring and Controlling, Closing, and Professional Responsibility modules with an average score of 70 percent or higher.
David Calvo is the Director of Distribution for the various specialty hospitals at the University of Miami. His goal is for the University of Miami to have a best-in-class distribution system and he is continually leading projects in pursuit of this goal. Some of those projects include transitioning to a Just-In-Time inventory model and developing an innovative mobile warehousing concept to relieve space constraints at the satellite hospitals.David is a former United States naval officer, management consultant, and full-time project manager with experience leading strategic, continuous improvement, change management, and IT projects in a variety of demanding environments. David holds an MBA and an MS in Supply Chain Management from the University of Maryland and the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
Randall J. Arvay, Ph.D. is a U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel and the Division Chief of Cyber Security and Quality Assurance with the Joint Spectrum Center in Annapolis, MD. With over 22 years of experience in various leadership positions with the Army, he has been involved many project management roles and has orchestrated and managed several multi-year projects to include many information technology and software development projects. Dr. Arvay earned his undergraduate degree in Computer Science from the United States Military Academy, West Point, his Masters of Science in Information Systems from Hawaii Pacific University, and a PhD in Software Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey. Dr. Arvay also holds the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification and serves as an adjunct associate professor at the United States Naval Academy in the Center for Cyber Security Studies. Dr. Arvay has extensive project management training and project leadership experience in both the Federal sector and in academia.
