In order to establish and maintain a competitive advantage, many of today’s businesses are required to undergo constant change. The University of Miami Managing Organizational Change Certificate Program teaches all the skills needed to facilitate and enable change in the workplace, from the beginning of the process through its completion. Students will learn how to overcome employee resistance to change, how to identify and create goals to encourage a universal sense of accomplishment, and how to develop a plan that expressly works toward sustainable achievements. They will also explore strategies for handling questions and concerns during the change process, encouraging teamwork among the affected employees, and reducing cost to the organization while maximizing the success of the change effort.
This program is offered through the Office of Professional Advancement at the University of Miami.
Possessing top-notch management skills can open doors in a variety of industries including advertising, sales, construction, marketing, and industrial production, as well as in the hospitality and retail industries. The U.S. Department of Labor projects the employment rate for most management positions will either rise or remain steady between 2012 and 2022. New businesses will seek out management material, while established companies will recognize and reward managers with skill sets that reflect a more modern, forward-thinking business approach.
Human resource managers are also tasked with managing organizational change, and the U.S. Department of Labor expects that field’s employment rate to expand by 13% between 2012 and 2022, higher than the average growth rate for all professions combined.
Program outcomes include: understanding the concept of organizational change; identifying triggering events that lead to organizational change; building essential skills for handling organizational change; planning for contingencies and ascertaining stakeholder scope of impact; and exploring use of the four frames as a method for managing organizational change and exploring the use of an outside consultant to help facilitate organizational change.
During the course of the program, each student will create an ePortfolio of their completed assignments to showcase program learning and program outcome mastery. This is a valuable tool to demonstrate professional skills and knowledge to current or potential employers.
The online format gives students the freedom to work at their own pace, navigating through modules of content that build on topics presented in the program’s required textbooks. By reviewing custom-curated articles, websites, and other electronic materials, students will expand their knowledge and gain an understanding of current applications in the business sector. Interactive study tools allow students to review key terms and topics prior to written and objective assessments, and practice quizzes increase skill development and ready students for module tests.
