Quick Facts About the Program

  • Career Outlook

From the smallest family-run shop to the largest Fortune 500 corporation, businesses of every size rely on managers to keep things running smoothly. These managers oversee every aspect of the company’s operation, from sales to marketing to finance, even stepping into the owner’s role when necessary. With any business, the core is always its people, and no skill is more crucial than a manager’s ability to lead, direct, and inspire other employees. While a specialization in economics, accounting, production, or other fields can add value to a manager’s resume, the way a manager communicates with those inside and outside the company has the greatest impact on overall success. Managers understand the importance of workplace ethics, critical thinking, and the business decision process, and they utilize these skills to maximize sales and productivity.

Possessing top-notch management skills can open doors in a variety of industries including advertising, sales, construction, marketing, and industrial production, as well as in the retail and hospitality industries. The U.S. Department of Labor projects the employment rate for most management positions will either rise or remain steady between 2012 and 2022. New businesses will seek out management material, while established companies will recognize and reward managers with skill sets that reflect a more modern, forward-thinking business approach.

Human resource managers are also tasked with conflict resolution, and the U.S. Department of Labor expects that field’s employment rate to expand by 13% between 2012 and 2022; higher than the average growth rate for all professions combined.
