Quick Facts About the Program

  • Career Outlook

Health information technicians play a key role in modern hospitals and private medical practices. An electronic medical records specialist is responsible for implementing and maintaining electronic medical records, collecting and analyzing patient data, performing quality assurance practices, utilizing and training staff members on medical office management software, and ensuring uniform standards for the electronic exchange of health information. Doctors, nurses, patients, and insurance providers rely on these valuable team members to organize and oversee a variety of important databases.

The U.S. Department of Labor projects that the employment rate for medical records and health information technicians will grow by 22% between 2012 and 2022, which is double the average growth rate for all professions combined. The popularity of training programs for EMR (electronic medical records) and EHR (electronic health records) software has surged due to recent mandates in healthcare law, and an increase in medical tests and treatments for the nation’s ageing population should ensure a high demand for those who have mastered these systems.

  • What Will I Learn?

Upon successful completion of the Electronic Medical Record Specialist Certificate Program, participants will demonstrate proficiency in:
