    The program is designed for highly motivated individuals who are working in the instructional design field in a wide variety of educational, training and development areas such as those found in schools, higher education, business, industry and government agencies.  These individuals may hold leadership positions in higher education, corporate and non-profit sector and K12 education. That includes holding positions as university professor, training and development manager, curriculum designer, instructional developer and instructional technology director.

    Core Courses in this program will cover: 

    Cyberethics                            

                    Participants in this course analyze the influence of law and ethics on course ownership, privacy, intellectual property, freedom of speech, and social responsibility. Through an examination of ethical assumptions, attitudes, and values, learners develop a foundation for understanding and supporting distance education from an ethical perspective. This course analyzes, from both conceptual and applied points of view, the interaction between education and society. Through an examination of basic assumptions, attitudes, and values, the participant will build an ethical and legal foundation for understanding the issues and policies related to distance education. This course involves active participation in discussions of current and future issues related to distance education.

    This information is important to any individual who is involved in distance education in any capacity: a learner, an instructor, an administrator, or a course designer. This course addresses basic concepts of ethics, morality, law, and justice, and issues including course ownership, privacy, intellectual property, freedom of speech, global concerns, social responsibilities, and other related topics. While the course deals primarily with distance education, it also includes discussions on more traditional forms of delivery, such as face-to-face classroom teaching.

    Leadership for Distance Education                           

    In this course, participants will analyze Eastern and Western theories and styles of leadership with distance education in mind.  Follower motivation, sources of power, change processes, group dynamics and the characteristics and abilities associated with effective leadership will also be examined. Students in this course will explore the diversity of leadership theory and the impact of diversity on leadership.

    Leading Instructional Design Initiatives                              

    In this course, participants integrate the competencies of instructional design and development with the leadership, innovative thinking, and communication skills needed to become leaders within their organizations. Participants practice applying these skills and focus on extending their ability to advance the performance goals and vision of their organization. Participants will examine leadership theory and topics with practical application to the profession of instructional design for online learning. This course will provide a solid foundation in leadership that will be applied in research, academic inquiry, and a real-world setting. Participants will become aware of multiple approaches in different settings to effectively manage and lead technology driven learning in a distance education environment.  

    Universal Design for Learning (UDL)

    Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a framework that can help you plan lessons that meet the needs of all of your students, including those with disabilities. In this course, you will examine the UDL principles and how you can leverage that knowledge to create deeper engagement and comprehension within learning objects. 

    (This course will benefit both leaders and ID’s in the trends involving universal design. This ensures that students have an understanding of the laws that are currently in place to make sure every type of learner has an opportunity to succeed.)

    Elective Courses in this program include:

    Instructional Technology Specialist

    Includes practical issues for managing the technology infrastructure, managing and strategies for using local area network systems for organization use, models for delivering staff development, process of organization improvement, role in communication with public in building support for technology, issues facing technology leaders, emerging technologies. Increasingly, organizations are hiring technology specialists to oversee the smooth implementation of technology throughout the organization.

    Multimedia Design and Publication

    This course takes an in-depth look at multimedia tools, design, development, publication, and evaluation to establish what works and explain how it works. Students will work with text, graphics, video, and sound to create instructional activities that incorporate various approaches to teaching and learning. This course is useful for instructors who are interested in designing or improving multimedia lessons in school setting, job training contexts, and informal environments.

    Online Instructional Design

    This course is designed for instructors and students in instructional design and technology courses who are or will be developing distance learning environments. Each participant will design content in an actual learning management system. This course looks at best practices for creating and delivering online instruction for all levels of education and corporate training.

    Exploring Educational Technology Tools

    This course prepares participants to design and build interactive, dynamic and immersive learning experiences through a purposeful and meaningful exploration of educational technology tools. Participants will gain mastery in utilizing a variety of edtech tools through rich and robust hands-on activities.
